On our homepage it all looks very tidy. Post, Discover, Propose, Decide, Connect. Five steps, one arrow, done by lunch.

I've been here long enough to know real life has a few more commas in it.

Post. You describe what you have. It feels slightly exposing, like leaving your front door open to see who wanders in. You reread it four times, change one word, then change it back. (I do this with every article. You're in good company.) If you get stuck, our AI helper can tidy it up, or you can talk to one of us. We genuinely like helping with this part. And then it's live, out in the world, doing its thing.

Discover. People start finding it. Some through search, some because we've put it in front of them on purpose. This is the bit I didn't expect when I joined: publishing isn't the end of our job, it's where it starts. We look at each listing and ask who could do something interesting with it, then we go and find those people.

You'll see views before anything else. Views are nice. Views are also people who looked and said nothing, which feels a lot like being left on read.

The quiet days. Nobody puts this bit on a homepage, so I will. Sometimes a listing gets a proposal within hours. Sometimes it sits for a week and you start wondering whether a 1960s motel was ever that interesting. (It was. I'd go.)

Quiet rarely means nobody wants it. More often the right person hasn't seen it yet, or they have and they're still thinking. Good proposals take longer to write than bad ones, which I suppose is true of most things worth reading.

If it stays quiet for a while, the listing might need a different angle. Clearer words, a better sense of why you posted, one detail that makes a stranger stop scrolling. We'll help you find it.

Propose. Someone sends an idea. Sometimes it's exactly what you hoped for. Sometimes it's something you'd never have thought of. Sometimes it's... a lot. Every one of them tells you something about what you have.

Decide. You're in charge here. Accept, ask questions, or say no. A polite no costs nothing and keeps people proposing.

Connect. You talk directly. We don't sit in the middle of your conversations. What happens next is between the two of you.

So that's the honest version. Less tidy than five words and an arrow, but a lot more likely to end somewhere you didn't expect.

Which, if you ask me, is the whole point of posting.
